Hon. George Heyman
Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy, Government of British Columbia
George Heyman is the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy for the Province of British Columbia, a role he’s held since 2017.Â
Min. Heyman has led the provincial response to climate change through the CleanBC Roadmap to 2030, one of the strongest climate and clean economy plans in North America, as well as B.C.’s Climate Preparedness and Adaptation Strategy.Â
He has previously served as the executive director of Sierra Club BC, one of the province’s oldest environmental advocacy and education organizations. He also served three terms as president of the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union. In both organizations, he was a respected negotiator and a strong fiscal manager. Before these positions, he lived in northern B.C. for many years and worked throughout the province’s northwest and coastal communities.Â
As Minister of Environment and MLA for Vancouver-Fairview, he is also Minister Responsible for TransLink, the province’s largest public transportation service.Â
