Graduated as Mechanical Engineer, Jan started his career at DSM, a multinational company in the Chemical and Pharma Industry.
He joined the cement industry in 1992 as project manager and moved into developing waste derived fuel programs starting in Europe, and expanding into the developing markets of Turkey, China and Indonesia. He lead the taskforce on this domain for the CSI, part of the WBCSD. He initiated and overlooked the implementation of waste heat power projects in China, Turkey and India and finally the development of solar power plants in UK and Togo.
As Director Alternative Resources for HeidelbergCement he is driving the companies engagement in Carbon Capture and Utilisation by teaming up with promising technology providers in this domain and to collaboratively bring it to commercialization. One of this is to grow micro-algae using fluegas from cement kilns as CO2-source. Especially Morocco is very well suitable for commercializing this approach.
