Hakima EL HAITE holds a PhD in Environmental Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences of Meknes, 1991, and a second PhD in Environmental Engineering at the Ecole des Mines de Saint-Étienne –Doctoral College of Mining Schools in France, 2010. She also obtained a diploma inPolitical Communication at the University of Washington (Washington DC) in 2008.
Since her appointment as Delegate Minister in charge of the Environment, Ms. EL HAITE haspassionately advocated to place the environment and sustainable development at the heart of national public policies.
Through her fight for the valorisation, the good management and the protection of resources, Ms. EL HAITE has espoused the cause of climate change, actively supporting the French Republic both in the negotiations and in the organization leading to the 21stsession of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 21). A precious experience priorto receiving COP 22 in Marrakech in 2016. Mrs. EL HAITE was also involved, as Minister, in both COP 19 and 20 in Warsaw and Lima.
In 2016, Mrs El Haite was appointed by the President of the French Republic, François HOLLANDE, Knight of the National Order of the Légiond’Honneur. Also, Mr. Laurent FABIUS, President of the COP21 has honoured her with the hammer of the COP 21 Presidency. Mrs EL HAITE is involved both in COP 21 as Vice President of the Bureau and in COP 22 within the Interministerial Committee for COP 22, Special Envoy of the COP 22 in the Steering Committee of COP 22 and as a High Level Champion.
Indeed, in May 2016, Ms. EL HAITE was appointed by the Presidency of the COP 22 as High Level Champion. Her long-term commitment to civil society, the depth of her entrepreneurial experience andthe scope of her mandate as a policy-maker are the axes on which she intends to rely and continue to develop in carrying out her mission, in close collaboration with the French High Level Champion, Ms Laurence TUBIANA.
